2008 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc

2008 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc

VINEYARD: The certified organic fruit comes from selected parcels in the Seresin Home vineyard, which surrounds the winery, and makes up the ripest portion of our Sauvignon Blanc harvest. Our low cropping vines carried about 50 percent less fruit than normal, resulting in fruit of incredible intensity. Four parcels of Sauvignon were hand picked between April 3 and April 9.

CLONES: 316, 317, 2413, 5385, MS

VINIFICATION: After hand-sorting the fruit was whole-bunch pressed, fifty percent of the blend was fermented in tank using wild yeast and the remaining portion was transferred to seasoned French barriques and left to undergo fermentation with wild yeast. The wine was left on lees for four months following fermentation.

The finished wine has an alcohol of 14.0 percent, pH of 3.38, 5.6g/L titratable acid and 3g/L residual sugar.

WINE MAKER'S NOTES: This Sauvignon Blanc displays aromas of guava and tropical fruit with a flinty minerality and a hint of cassis on the nose. The palate is rich and textured with concentrated tropical, pomegranate and mandarin flavours and a tight focused acidity, which draws out the palate for a lingering finish.

CELLARING POTENTIAL: After several months bottle age prior to release, this wine is enjoyable now, however the fruit concentration and firm acidity will ensure that it improves over the next five years.

"“Very restrained crop (3tonnes/Ha) from the 17-year-old vines on the Home vineyard. Lifted, lively nose - rather flirtatious - more so than the first vintage, the 2007. Complete. Lifted nose. Lightly smoky with just a hint of oily pungency. Very racy and impressively long. Perhaps not as concentrated as the 2007 Reserve - and it could be more useful for it."
