Seresin Estate
2007 Marama

2007 Marama

VINEYARD: The certified organic grapes are grown in the free-draining Waimakiriri soils of the Seresin Home vineyard, which surrounds the winery. The fruit used for the 2007 Marama comes from our oldest Sauvignon Blanc vines and makes up the ripest portion of our Sauvignon Blanc harvest. The grapes were hand picked between April 2 and April 9.

CLONES: MS, 316, 317, 5385, 2413,

VINIFICATION: The fruit was hand-sorted then whole-bunch pressed, before being transferred directly to French barriques, twenty five percent of which were new. The juice and solids were left to undergo spontaneous fermentation using wild yeast, followed by partial natural malolatic fermentation. The wine was then left in barrel on yeast lees for fifteen months, with regular stirring.

The finished wine has an alcohol of 14.5 percent, pH of 3.27, 7.3g/L titratable acid and 2g/L residual sugar.

WINEMAKERS NOTES: The 2007 Marama has its own identity, richly textured it exhibits aromas of citrus and passionfruit with a hint truffle. The palate is complex with tropical fruit and melon, creme caramel and a long, lingering finish.

CELLARING POTENTIAL: This wine should develop well over the next eight years.

"92 Points.
The fantastic 2007 Marama Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the Home Vineyard-s oldest vines and fermented in French barriques, 25% new and is endowed with an intense nose of apple, dried pineapple, gooseberry and lychee. Good definition and developing a faint hint of clear honey with time. The palate is well balanced with great weight, slightly viscous in texture with that honeyed element becoming more noticeable towards the finish. Builds nicely, finishes almost like a Chardonnay rather than a Sauvignon Blanc (probably due partly to the new oak), but there is no doubting the sense of natural balance and precision. Excellent."
