2009 Memento Riesling

VINEYARD: All the fruit for this wine comes from seventeen year old vines from the Seresin Home Vineyard on the upper terraces surrounding the winery. The vineyard is made up of a variety of Waimakiriri type soils of alluvial origin with free-draining basalt pebbles. Our vines are all on narrow-row spacing which promotes competition and encourages a lighter crop on each vine. The Memento Riesling was hand-picked on April 2.

VINIFICATION: The fruit was hand-sorted and then whole bunch pressed to retain purity of fruit characters. After pressing the juice was settled until it was crystal clear and then fermented at low temperatures until a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity was achieved.

The finished wine has an alcohol of 10 percent, pH of 2.91, 8.6g/L titratable acid and 38g/L residual sugar.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES: The nose exhibits floral and lime aromas with a hint of dried apricot. The palate is crisp with delicate flavours of honeysuckle, flint and citrus. This wine brings together the extremes of sweetness and acidity creating a long and harmonious finish.

CELLARING POTENTIAL: Drinking well now, this wine has the potential to improve over the next five years.
